Literature Text

A single pane of glass embedded in my wall,
adorned in moons and stars and draped violet…
offering a glimpse into the world in which
I am not submerged.

Solid.

A cool reminder of Our separation.
Yet its purpose is not all stern…
World’s mouth can be opened in a moment of tenderness
And breathe into me and my room--
The stagnating air parting to its freshness.

And It will whisper to me stories.
Stories of child’s play and morning walks
and snow days and snuck out nights of romance
and slam-doored endings to trivial arguments…
Hah.
World, what activity flutters and roils under your skin!
Pity I never quite fit in it.

You know of my yearning, I think.
That’s why you let me press and part your mouth,
And wait for your breath
And your gifts...

Fragments of bird songs, scented unfurling of seasons,
Snipits of conversation
Airborne scraps of leaf and snow
And all sorts to be carried to my sill.

With precious tidbits,
You remind me of what I’ve left, and lost,
And lose.
Originally done for a Spanish project, where I wrote it as an "ode" to my window.
I lost the English copy, and the online translator butchered it, so I just started again mostly from scratch with my "translation" as a guide. It needed rewriting anyways...

I seem to have this inadvertant window obsession. If you include this as being a separate piece from the original it derived from, I've written four poems about "The world beyond my window" to date. The funny thing is, the first three times I didn't remember having ever written a window poem before. Even in the third one, I wrote thinking like it was just as new a concept as it was the first time...though I suppose my first poem (written in sixth grade) told an entirely different tale from my third.
Or perhaps not so much?
Hah...mayhaps my subconcious is speaking to me. D;

Anywho, while I'm allowed to rewrite my own work, you're not. Steal any of my intellectual property and I'll eat you. D<
